Urnes Stave church
Urnes Stave church is one of the oldest stave churches in Norway and because of its beauty and history it is placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as the only stave church.
The church was built around 1130, but the very special wood carvings and ornaments on the North portal is from another church. There are also traces of an older church built on the same ground, dating back to 1050.
The church is nestled on a hillside with a view over the fjord landscape - as it has done for almost a 1000years. Worth the visit - worth the journey.
